Knierim Named to Top Prospects Game

By Fighting Saints 08/28/2015, 9:00am CDT

Dubuque forward to play at CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo September 24

DUBUQUE, IA--By the time Willie Knierim takes the ice for the Dubuque Fighting Saints to open the regular season on September 26, the Skokie, IL native will have a summer full of hockey honors under his belt. The second-year Fighting Saint forward recently finished up a tenure as the alternate captain for Team USA at the prestigious Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Bratislava. Now, Knierim's summer will conclude with a chance to play in the 2015 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Top Prospects Game on September 24 in Buffalo, NY. Knierim was one of 42 players that NHL scouts have their eyes on selected to play in the game.

Each year the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game assembles the top U.S. players who are eligible for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. Following last year’s game, 26 players that participated in the contest went on to be chosen in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, including seven first-round selections. This year's game will be played at the First Niagara Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres.

Knierim, who is eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, was signed to a tender by the Fighting Saints in April 2014. He joined the club as at just 16 for the 2014-2015 campaign and enjoyed a solid rookie season in the USHL. Knierim skated in all 60 games for the Fighting Saints, registering 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points. The 6-foot-3 forward would catch fire in the playoffs, scoring four goals and adding three assists in just seven games.

The Miami (Ohio) commit joins teammates Spenser Young and Hunter Miska as players to have skated in the All-American Top Prospects Game. Young played in last year's game, and Miska was selected to the contest in 2012. Former Fighting Saints Shane Eiserman and Seamus Malone (2013) and Mike Downing (2012) to play in the game.

Knierim and the Fighting Saints open the 2015-2016 regular season on September 26 with Opening Night presented by American Trust as the Madison Capitals come to town. The club opens preseason action next Friday, September 4, on home ice versus Cedar Rapids. Knierim will play in the preseason before departing to Buffalo, then returning to Dubuque for Opening Night.

Tickets to all home games are on sale now by calling 563.583.6880 or online at

Kuhns Named New "Voice of Saints"

By Zack Fisch 08/21/2015, 1:45pm CDT

Kuhns takes over for Zack Fisch as the club's Broadcasting and Media Relations Coordinator

DUBUQUE, IA–The Dubuque Fighting Saints have hired Jordan Kuhns as the club’s new Broadcasting and Media Relations Coordinator. Kuhns, 25, will serve as the “Voice of the Fighting Saints” and takes over the microphone from Zack Fisch who accepted a position with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL earlier this week.

“Jordan’s background and experience makes him a great fit for our organization,” said Matt Rau, Vice President of Business Operations.  “His passion for the game of hockey is very apparent in everything that he does both on and off the microphone. We are excited to welcome Jordan to the team and the City of Dubuque.”

The Harleysville, PA native brings a vast broadcast background to the Fighting Saints including stints in college and professional hockey. A 2012 graduate of Millersville University, Kuhns launched coverage of the school’s ACHA hockey games in 2009, and provided play-by-play at the school through 2014. In addition to calling hockey games at Millersville, Kuhns also helped pioneer the Marauder Sports Broadcasting Network, lending his voice to the school’s football, field hockey, basketball, baseball and softball broadcasts.

“I am extraordinarily excited to join the Dubuque Fighting Saints,” said Kuhns. “The rich tradition of excellence of which this organization prides itself on is outstanding. I can't wait to be part of the team. I would like to thank Matt Rau, Zack Fisch, and the rest of the Fighting Saints organization for allowing me to continue the tradition here in Dubuque.”

Kuhns served as a Production Intern with the Reading Royals of the ECHL in 2010-2011, assisting with video and promotions for the club. His time in Reading also allowed him the opportunity to call ECHL games to help gain experience. Kuhns has been a credentialed press member with many professional teams, including the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Hersey Bears of the AHL, in addition to the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers. His time in professional hockey press boxes has allowed him to refine his play-by-play and writing skills.

Kuhns most recently served as the Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations for the Lexington County (South Carolina) Blowfish Baseball Club in the Coastal Plain Baseball League. With the Blowfish, Kuhns called all 56 games, handled the team’s media relations and social media accounts, and assisted with ticket sales. He also spent time with ESPN Williamsport, covering Misericordia University athletics.

“We are excited to welcome Jordan Kuhns to the Dubuque Fighting Saints,” said Fisch. “I was fortunate to be part of the hiring process, and Jordan was someone that we quickly indentified as a top candidate once we listened to his work. He has a fantastic voice, and I think our fans will really enjoy his call.  I’m excited to pass the microphone to him going forward.”

Kuhns will arrive in Dubuque next week and will call his first game on September 4 when Dubuque opens the preseason at the Mystique Community Ice Center against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Kuhns will call all preseason, regular season and postseason Fighting Saints games on the airwaves of radio partner KIYX, Dubuque’s Super Hits 106. He will also handle the club’s media relations, oversee social media and the team website and assist with season and group ticket sales.

“I'm looking forward to serving this community in Dubuque, and it will be a genuine thrill to tell the story of this team beginning on September 4,” said Kuhns. “The USHL holds a significant position as the top developmental league in the United States. I have heard of the tremendous talent in this league and I can't wait to bring the excitement of that talent to our spectacular fans.”

Season Tickets to the 2015-2016 season are on sale now and start at just $9/game. Full Season Ticket Packages offer the best value and extra benefits but must be purchased by September 4.
