In a wild finish, the Dubuque Fighting Saints equalized with 00.2 seconds left in regulation before ending the game in overtime with a Matias Maccelli missile. Dubuque used every bit of regulation to get the tying goal, which caromed off a few Green Bay bodies and in to the back of the net. It was the second game in a row at the Resch Center between the two which ended 3-2 in overtime on a Maccelli winner.
-Dubuque has now played 11 of their last 12 games to one goal finishes. In the last two, the team has fought back and found ways to win. In this game, despite an early third period goal from Jesse Tucker, Dubuque dominated play and got a bounce they needed.
-Evan Fear had another solid game in between the pipes against the Fighting Saints, but this time Dubuque did enough to hand the net minder the loss. Fear made 31 saves as Dubuque peppered him with shots throughout the night.
-The Gamblers played another spirited contest against the Fighting Saints. Save for the 7-1 Dubuque victory to begin December, all games this season between the two have been right down to the wire. This is the third 3-2 final in the season series; Dubuque has won two.
-All of the goals for Dubuque were scored in methods other than five on five. Dubuque tallied a five on four goal, a six on four goal and a three on three goal in the win.
-Tucker and Jackson Perbix, the two leading scorers on Green Bay, potted the two goals for the Gamblers. Perbix played a gritty game, crashing the net, hitting a post and burying a goal on the doorstep.
-The Gamblers picked up a point, but didn’t gain ground in the standings as Youngstown also gained a point in USHL action. The Fighting Saints didn’t gain ground on the Chicago Steel, but they did create some separation between themselves and Central Illinois.
-Maccelli factored in to all three goals for the Fighting Saints as he produced yet another multi-point night. With the three points, Maccelli moved in to a tie for second in the USHL scoring race. Brett Murray, who had two points for Youngstown, sits in first with 40.
-Aaron Randazzo followed up his 25 save shootout win with a 22 save overtime victory. Randazzo has six wins this season for Dubuque as he notched back to back victories for the second time this season.
-The Fighting Saints will take on the Lincoln Stars tomorrow night at Mystique Community Ice Center. It will be Dubuque’s second game of a three game weekend and it will be Lincoln’s third game of a three game weekend.
