DUBUQUE, Iowa — According to general manager Kalle Larsson, effective immediately, the Dubuque Fighting Saints have added Viktor Bovbel (Brest, BLR) to the active roster, and have assigned defenseman Jonatan Asplund (Stockholm, SWE/Michigan State) to the Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League.
Bovbel, fresh off of the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo representing native Belarus, Bovbel brings a balanced scoring threat, with eight goals and 14 assists on his native U20 team, and he scored four points in six games during the World Juniors.
“Viktor is a hard-nosed and competitive forward,” Larsson said. “We are happy to have him in Dubuque and think that he can provide much necessary secondary scoring to our team.”
Asplund notched five points in 25 games for the Fighting Saints this season. The 18-year-old defenseman was selected in the fourth round, 61st overall, by the Saints in Phase II of the 2017 USHL Draft. He will remain on the Fighting Saints’ affiliate list.
