Saints ready to take the ice for Opening Night this Friday at Our House

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints have announced the 23-man roster for the 2017–2018 season ahead of Opening Night, presented by American Trust on Friday, October 6 at 7:05 p.m.

10 returners take to the ice for the Saints in 2017, spearheaded by captain Cole Guttman (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Cloud State/Tampa Bay Lightning), who was among the most electrifying rookies in the USHL a season ago, and starting netminder Jaxon Castor (Phoenix, Ariz.), who notched the second-most wins in a single season (30) in Fighting Saints history.

Winnipeg Jets draft pick Santeri Virtanen (Kirkkonummi, FIN), who played in the preseason with the Fighting Saints a season ago, also headlines a talented forward group in Dubuque.

The roster includes 12 newcomers. That number includes forwards Matthew Brown (Wood-Ridge, NJ/UMass-Lowell), Jan Kern (Praha, CZE), Bauer Neudecker (St. Louis Park, MN/Alabama-Huntsville), Logan Pietila (Howell, MI/Michigan Tech), Chayse Primeau (Voorhees, N.J./Canisius College), Taylor Schneider (Lakeville, Minn.) and Adam Tisdale (Cochrane, Alb./Clarkson).

The defense sees reinforcements from Jonatan Asplund (Stockholm, SWE), Roman Kinal (Waterford, Mich.), Josh Maniscalco (Perkiomenville, Pa./Arizona State) and Iowa native Jordan Wishman (Des Moines, Iowa). A new goalie joins the mix in Cole Weaver (Champlin, Minn.), who was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League rookie of the year.

The Fighting Saints are led by first-year head coach Oliver David, with Paul Kirtland and Matt Millar also on staff as assistant coaches. David and the rest of the staff will be looking to push the Fighting Saints organization to an eighth consecutive playoff Clark Cup playoff berth, and an opportunity to win a sixth Clark Cup championship.

Tickets to Opening Night, presented by American Trust, are available now. The Dubuque Fighting Saints welcome the reigning Clark Cup champion Chicago Steel to Our House. Call the box office at 563.583.6880 or go to to secure your spot on this special night today.
