DUBUQUE, Iowa — The United States Hockey League (USHL) has released the full schedule for the 2017–2018 season. The regular season, presented by American Trust, will begin on Friday, October 6 against reigning Clark Cup champion, and Eastern Conference Final opponent, the Chicago Steel. The full schedule is available at DubuqueFightingSaints.com.
The established tradition of excellence will look to continue under the direction of first-year head coach Oliver David, and with the leadership of captain Cole Guttman. The Fighting Saints own the longest active playoff streak of seven consecutive seasons in the Clark Cup playoffs, with two Clark Cup championships in that span (2011, 2013).
“We can’t wait for Fighting Saints hockey to return to Our House, and we love that the regular season starts right here in Dubuque,” said Katie Kenne, Vice President of Business Operations. “The countdown is on for that first game against the Steel, and that date is getting closer and closer. It will be here before you know it!”
Fans can expect a fairly balanced schedule of home and road games throughout the year. Four of the first seven games of the year are away from the confines of Our House, but fans can experience five home game dates in the month of November. February and March also contain five home game dates, which is tied for the most in a month this season.
The Fighting Saints will play in three home-and-home series during the regular season, with an early back-to-back with the Waterloo Black Hawks on October 13 and 14, with the Bloomington Thunder on October 27 and 28, and finally with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on February 2 and 3.
The Saints will host three separate four-game homestands throughout the year, as the team will host the Sioux City Musketeers twice, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, and the Madison Capitols, within a span of November 25 to December 8. Then, Dubuque hosts its easternmost rivals in Muskegon and Youngstown in early January, and then the final two weekends of the season wrap up the home-heavy parts of the schedule.
January features the longest “road trip” of the season, as seven games in a row between January 18 and February 2 are played outside of Dubuque. Three of those games are within manageable driving distance, as on January 18, the Saints are in Madison, and are in Cedar Rapids on January 20 and February 2.
The regular season comes to a close with back-to-back weekend sets. The Saints will host the NTDP U17s on April 6 and 7, and then the Green Bay Gamblers on April 13 and 14.
All home games are set to start at 7:05 p.m.
