Food drives, Military Appreciation Night coming up in the next month

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints will have the most home games of the season starting in late October and running through the end of November. Several games in the upcoming month will benefit community ventures, with help from the fans, starting on Saturday, October 29.

The Saints will welcome Dupaco Cowbell Cup rival Waterloo to town at 7:05 p.m. on October 29 for the first-ever Pet Supply Drive, sponsored by That’s My Dog! Fans are encouraged to bring pet collars, leashes, food, and other pet and cleaning supplies. All items donated will benefit the Dubuque and Jackson County Humane Societies.

The food drive continues into the month of November. On Friday, November 4 against the Muskegon Lumberjacks, we will be hosting Stuff the Bus for Clare Cares Night, sponsored by Hy-Vee. All canned or non-perishable food items collected at the door will benefit the St. Stephen’s Food Bank. Located in Dubuque, St. Stephen’s Food Bank has serviced the Dubuque and Jackson County area since 1982.

Fans that donate two or more canned goods at the door will receive a coupon that will take ten cents off per gallon on your next fuel purchase at a local Hy-Vee gas station.

We will pay tribute to our armed forces, active, inactive and retired, on Friday, November 11, when the Green Bay Gamblers come to town for Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Dairy Queen, Kwik Stop and Fazoli’s along with media partner 101.1 FM The River. The team will be donning special military-themed uniforms once again, sponsored by the Dubuque County Commission of Veterans Affairs, which will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Veterans Freedom Center on Kerper Boulevard.

Last year’s auction raised over $13,500 for the Veterans Freedom Center, a safe haven for local military veterans, and Operation We Care, a service that provides medical equipment and financial support to veterans in need. Each auction on Military Appreciation Night has provided a substantial sum of money towards the center’s operations.

Military members, active, inactive, veterans and retired, can all receive $3.00 off per ticket with a valid military ID, up to six tickets.
