Fighting Saints Acquire Defenseman Ryan Zuhlsdorf

NHL-drafted defenseman comes to Dubuque in deadline deal

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Dubuque Fighting Saints head coach/GM Jason Lammers has announced that they have acquired defenseman Ryan Zuhlsdorf from the Sioux City Musketeers in exchange for defenseman Patrick Holway, and future considerations.

Zuhlsdorf, a 2015 Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick (5th round, 150th overall), has been a stalwart puck-moving defenseman for the Musketeers in his career. In 30 games this season, the University of Minnesota commit tallied 23 points, all assists. He served as the Musketeers’ captain this season as well.

“We wanted to add a defenseman that has a really good history,” Lammers said. “[Zuhlsdorf] is a really good leader, and he has worn a letter on various different teams and places he has been.”

“He has experience at winning championships, and he is someone that can really help our defense corps.”

Along with the point production, Zuhlsdorf played in the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Dubuque, and was named to the USHL All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of last season. In 86 career USHL games, he has scored 3 goals and 42 assists.

Holway, a 2015 Detroit Red Wings Draft pick (6th round, 170th overall), added one goal and six assists in 37 games for the Dubuque Fighting Saints this season. Prior to joining the Fighting Saints, he played two productive seasons with the Boston Advantage U18 program, notching 16 goals and 28 assists.

“Patrick, first and foremost, is a really good person,” Lammers added. “He has a really good heart, he is a guy that put in a lot of work here, and he was a real pleasure to coach. We wish him the best. “
