DUBUQUE, IA––The Dubuque Fighting Saints have made a key addition to the hockey operations staff for the upcoming 2015-2016 season. The club announced today that they have hired Kalle Larsson as the team's Director of Player Personnel.
“We are excited to welcome Kalle to our staff,” said Jason Lammers, Head Coach and General Manager of the Dubuque Fighting Saints. “What made Kalle the right fit was his experience and intelligence. I think he’s one of the bright young minds in hockey. He brings a wealth of knowledge and an extensive network of contacts that will help us greatly in player development.”
Larsson, 33, joins the Fighting Saints from the Sioux City Musketeers where he previously served as the club’s Assistant General Manager and Director of Scouting. The Gothenburg, Sweden native joined the team late in the 2013-2014 season and provided insight to the organization during two USHL Drafts. In 2014-2015, Sioux City finished in the top spot in the USHL’s Western Conference.
“Kalle was targeted by us, and once Sioux City graciously gave us permission to speak with him, he was the bull’s-eye on our target,” said Oliver David, Fighting Saints Associate Head Coach and Assistant General Manager. “I have an extensive history, both personally and professionally, with Kalle, and moving forward, we are looking to build a family atmosphere in Dubuque, and he separated himself from the pack and proved to be the ultimate fit.”
Prior to joining Sioux City, Larsson was the Associate Head Coach at his Alma matter, Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. Larsson played for Lawrence from 2003-2007, scoring 19 points in 22 games his senior season. Larsson returned to St. Lawrence as an Assistant Coach in 2010. He spent four years on the coaching staff of the NCAA Division-III program before joining Sioux City.
“The opportunity to join such a great organization and work with Jason Lammers and Oliver David, two people I know well, make this a great fit,” said Larsson. “The three of us think the game the same way. I want to thank Brad Kwong and Jason Lammers for this opportunity. Also, I would like to thank the Sioux City Musketeers and Jay Varady, Lloyd Ney and current and former GM’s Mark LaRose and Luke Strand for two great seasons. I wish them continued success moving forward. With that said, Dubuque has tradition of excellence on and off the ice and I am excited to help carry on that tradition. The Fighting Saints fan base is known throughout junior hockey, and I cannot wait for the season to start."
Larsson will play a large role with the Fighting Saints and will be based out of the Chicago area. He will spend a great deal of time traveling to evaluate players and head up the organization’s scouting department. He will also play a pivotal role on Lammer’s staff, evaluating players within the USHL and providing insight on all player personnel decisions. Larsson’s large networks of contacts, both in the United States and internationally, will play a large role in helping the Fighting Saints secure high-end players.
