DUBUQUE, IA–The puck drops on the 2015-2016 Dubuque Fighting Saints season in just 73 days. The United States Hockey League unveiled dates of home openers for all 17 teams today, and the Fighting Saints begin their sixth campaign since returning to the USHL with Opening Night, presented by American Trust, on Saturday, September 26 at the Mystique Community Ice Center against the Madison Capitols. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m. The league will release the complete 2015-2016 schedule, including preseason and regular season dates, tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
For the first time since 2012, Dubuque will open the season on home ice. Dubuque and Madison renewed a rivalry that dated back to the 1980’s with Madison’s return to the USHL last season, and the Fighting Saints posted a 4-0-2 against their new Eastern Conference foe during the 2014-2015 campaign. Both teams will feature a new face behind the bench this season. Troy Ward, a former Dubuque Fighting Saints coach in the 1990’s, replaced Luke Strand as head coach in Madison. The Fighting Saints are in the process of a coaching search to find the successor to Matt Shaw who accepted an assistant coach position at the University of North Dakota this summer.
