The United States Hockey League announced its weekly award winners for Week 2 of the regular season, and already the Dubuque Fighting Saints are making their mark. Fighting Saints forward Brett Boeing was named the CCM Forward of the Week for his performance during the club's games this past weekend at Waterloo and against Omaha.
Boeing scored four goals in the Fighting Saints two games, notching a hat trick in Dubuque's 7-1 Opening Night victory over Omaha. Boeing scored a goal in each period, posting his first USHL multi-goal game and his first USHL hat trick. His performance earned him the Truck Country 1st Star of the Game Saturday evening, and helped lead the Fighting Saints to their first win of the year.
Boeing also notched a goal on Friday, scoring the Fighting Saints lone tally in a 4-1 loss at Waterloo. Boeing currently leads the USHL with four goals. He registered 10 goals all of last season. The returning forward is a native of Barrington, IL and is committed to play college hockey at Michigan Tech.
Also taking league honors this week was Cedar Rapids defenseman Aaron Thow, winning the CCM Defenseman of the week, and Waterloo goaltender Hayden Lavigne, taking the Reebok Goaltender of the Week awards.
Boeing and the Fighting Saints are back in action on Saturday, visiting Sioux City at 7:05 p.m. That game can be heard on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM.
