DUBUQUE, Iowa — The most lovable mascot in the USHL, and quite possibly, the world, Bernie the St. Bernard, is about to return to the Tri-State Area in a big way. Bernie, along with all of his community appearances, will be sponsored by Simmons Pet Food, the leading North American private-label and contract manufacturer of wet pet food.
Bernie can usually be found right here at the Mystique Community Ice Center, bringing joy to the crowd on game nights. But he has been known to go “Over the Edge” at the Hotel Julien to raise money for United Way, take part in mascot races at Platteville Berry Fest, pump up kids throughout the Midwest as part of the Live Like a Saint character education assembly program, march in the yearly Halloween parade in Dubuque, deliver sweepstakes prizes, visit team sponsors, and so much more. The team is building a comprehensive community calendar for Bernie to take part in throughout the summer and beyond.
Simmons Pet Food Vice President of Operations, Mark Donovan, said, “At Simmons, we love pets, and we love winning partnerships. Dubuque has been a great place to expand our pet food operation and a great place to grow our Simmons’ team. We’re excited about supporting a winning combination like the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Bernie the St. Bernard, a mascot who not only rallies the fans, but also serves the community.”
“We are incredibly excited to partner with an incredible pet food provider and bring Bernie back into our community with a splash,” said Casey Weitz, the Saints’ VP of Corporate Partnerships. “People of all ages love Bernie. With Simmons’ committed partnership and resources, we will be able to bring smiles to a lot of faces to people in the Tri-State area at our games and throughout the community.”
Simmons Pet Food is the leading North American private label and contract manufacturer of wet pet food. Their Dubuque operations are located off of Seippel Road. They are currently hiring for their second phase of expansion. Simmons Pet Food is an affiliate of Simmons Foods, which was founded in 1949 in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
The partnership is first-of-its-kind in the USHL, and it will undoubtedly link an incredible mascot with an incredible brand of pet food that has an incredibly strong presence in our organization’s home city.
