Fletcher To Wear C, Stella and Stuart Serve As Alternates

The Dubuque Fighting Saints have named their leadership group for the rest of the 2020-21 season. PJ Fletcher will serve as the team’s captain, while Evan Stella and Riley Stuart will be the alternate captains. Fletcher is in his first season with Dubuque, a returnee from the NCAA ranks. Stuart and Stella are both second-year Saints with close to 50 games of USHL experience.

“We are proud to name PJ, Evan and Riley to our captain core,” said head coach Oliver David. “PJ emerged as our captain based on player feedback centered around his overall demeanor and consistently productive mindset. He doesn’t do anything casual; he has great daily habits, and he lives in with our Saints Standards.”

Fletcher played last season for Quinnipiac at the NCAA level. So far this season he has been a consistent producer at the center position for the Saints. Fletcher has 13 points and has played in all but two games this season with Dubuque.

Stuart was one of the youngest players on last season Saints team but has quickly blossomed into one of the veteran leaders. His production has skyrocketed in his second year, with nine points thus far. He is one of five Saints to have played in every game this season.

“Riley has played an integral role as the Connector, bringing along the many new guys that have joined us this season,” said David. “He’s the ultimate good dude and a great teammate and friend to all. He always finds a way to give us energy and encourage us to fight like Saints.”

Stella, a recent college commit to AIC, has been a productive and consistent member on the blue line for parts of two seasons. He has made stride offensively and continues to produce big minutes defensively.

“Evan has been a model of consistency, carrying the heaviest of workloads this season as we have been slow to find our way,” said David. “The way he goes about the day to day has been noticed and appreciated by all of us, especially in regard to positively impacting our D-core.”

The Saints and their newly minted leadership group will hit the ice again this weekend when they take on Green Bay on Friday and Saturday.
