Fighting Saints defenseman Ian Pierce announced his commitment to Dartmouth College on Thursday night. Pierce has been a member of the Saints over the last two seasons and has cemented himself as one of the key pieces on the blue line this season. He joins teammate Henry Thrun as the second Fighting Saint on this year’s team to be committed to an Ivy League school.
“Ian is a wonderful person, disciplined student and a committed hockey player,” said head coach Oliver David. “He has made our club better just with his presence alone. I think he’ll put the D in Dartmouth just as he has done here in Dubuque.”
Last season Pierce burst onto the scene in a starting role a little before the mid-point of the season. He anchored a strong defensive corps and was mentioned as arguably the most improved player on the team by his coaching staff. Pierce finished last season with seven points, including four in his last nine games.
“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to be able to live my dream,” said Pierce.
Pierce’s commitment gives the Fighting Saints 15 college commits on this season’s team thus far. Dubuque’s next game is scheduled for Monday the 23rd as Pierce and the team will be back in action against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
