Over the next two weeks, we will be putting a spotlight on each and every member of the 2020 Fighting Saints Training Camp roster. The players are set to report to Dubuque by the beginning of October with the USHL season slated to start November 6th. Dubuque returns 10 players from last year’s team, adds two from the NCAA ranks and brings in seven from their affiliate list last year. According to head coach Oliver David, this will be a very young, but talented team. This week we will be profiling Michael Feenstra.
Michael Feenstra 2019-20 Stats: 40 GP, 2G, 7A, 9P (Dubuque Fighting Saints)
In his second full season with Dubuque (third overall) Michael Feenstra showed more than his fair share of promise on the blue line. Back for his third full season, the Michigan State commit has a lot of positives to work with heading into the new year.
Feenstra missed a few games due to injury last year, skating in 40 of a possible 48 contest. In his 40 games, he was noticeably more confident and effective on the offensive side of the puck and his defensive game was taken to the next level as well.
Feenstra showed a willingness and ability to skate up in the rush and consistently demonstrated that more and more as the season went on. During his games at the Saints Main Camp, he continued to develop that side of his game as well.
Feenstra scored twice and grabbed seven apples for a total of nine points, three better than his total from a season before. He was a plus-14 on the year, but perhaps the biggest sign of an increase in confidence was his 56 shots on goal as opposed to just 33 the year before.
