DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints saw five players named to the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings on Monday. The rankings are a solid indication as to where draft-eligible players will be taken come the end of July. Carter Savoie, Wyatt Kaiser, Michael Benning, Alex Jefferies and Stephen Halliday were named to the Midterm list for Dubuque.
Savoie and Benning continue to shine as part of the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the AJHL. The team is dominant, thanks in large part of the two Saints Affiliates. Savoie is fourth in the league with 66 points in 37 games. He also leads the AJHL with 37 goals. Benning leads the league in scoring from a defenseman, with 52 points so far. Savoie was ranked 52nd among North American skaters, while Benning was ranked 60th.
Wyatt Kaiser, who played 11 games with Dubuque earlier this season, was ranked 56th in the North American rankings. Kaiser had three assists in his time with Dubuque and is now back home in Minnesota playing for Andover High School. Kaiser is currently second on the team with 18 points this season.
Alex Jefferies also cracked the top-100, with the 98th spot on the list. Jefferies has played a few games for Dubuque and is playing this season with the Gunnery Prep in Massachusetts. Jefferies led the team in scoring last season and is off to another hot start this year.
Stephen Halliday was named to the list, jumping in at spot 178. After a slow start to the season, Halliday has heated up as of late for the Saints. He has 17 points on the year but has picked up eight in the last seven games. Three of his five goals have also come in that span.
The NHL Central Scouting will come out with more lists throughout the remainder of the season before the NHL Draft in July.
