DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints have added defenseman Evan Stella to their roster to bolster what has already been one of the best defensive units in the USHL. Stella joins the team from the SuperElit League in Sweden where he has played 19 games so far this season. Stella is a left shot d-man and gives the Saints another weapon on the blue line.
“Evan is a good skating, defense first kind of player who will add depth to our D-core,” said Saints General Manager Kalle Larsson. “He has experience at the highest level of junior hockey in Sweden with a great organization. Evan has also been in camp with us before so we know him on and off the ice and look forward to being part of his continued development.”
Defensively this season, the Saints have given up a league low 27 goals. The effort has been collective, from the net all the way out to the forwards, but the defenseman have been a major factor in the team’s early season successes. Stella slots in nicely for the Fighting Saints.
“We are very excited to add Evan Stella,” said head coach Oliver David. “With the addition of Stella we are back at eight available defensemen, following the departure of Wyatt Kaiser for the winter.”
Kaiser, who started the season with the team, returned to high school in Minnesota. Stella, who arrives in his place, is no stranger to the Fighting Saints as he joined the team for Main Camp this past summer.
