DUBUQUE, Iowa — Mark Cheremeta became the second Saints player to announce his college commitment on Wednesday afternoon, committing to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Cheremeta, who spent last season with Boston University, will join the Buckeyes after the conclusion of the 2019-20 season with the Fighting Saints.
“We are so proud of the work Mark has done at this juncture,” said head coach Oliver David. “His overall mindset and great competitive nature have benefitted us all as we embark on our journey through the USHL season.”
Cheremeta has made an immediate impact in his first season with Dubuque. The skilled winger has supplied a steady presence on the power play and added an abundance of skill and experience to the Saints lineup. Cheremeta is one of three players with double digit points this season, as he is one off the team lead with 11. He has been a model of consistency with just one game without a point this season.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to play at such a great organization like Ohio State,” said Cheremeta. “The balance of a great coaching staff that helps players get better and an amazing business program there made it an easy decision.”
Cheremeta played last season with Boston University and did have some USHL experience before his time in Dubuque. He spent three regular season games and two playoff contests with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2016-17 and had one goal.
