Saint Netminder Is Coming Off 18 Save Shutout

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Fresh off his first USHL shutout, Aidan McCarthy was named the USHL Goaltender of the Week as selected by the league. McCarthy backstopped the Saints with 18 saves against the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday night to extend the team’s win streak to six games. McCarthy is now 2-0 on the season with a 1.50 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

The shutout came in McCarthy’s second game in net for Dubuque. McCarthy is the second Fighting Saint to record their first shutout in just their second USHL game. The Novi, Michigan native came into the season as the Saints number two in net and has been a dominant compliment to Erik Portillo who leads the USHL in wins. The one-two punch has given Dubuque stability regardless of where they have turned to begin the 2019-20 season.

The weekly honor is not just the first of McCarthy’s career, but also the first weekly honor for a Fighting Saint this season. Last season both of Dubuque’s goalies received a nod for goalie of the week.

The Saints are back in action this Saturday as the team heads to Plymouth, Michigan for a single road game against the NTDP U-17’s.
