13 Skaters Returning From Last Year For Training Camp

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints have announced their Training Camp roster ahead of the 2019-20 USHL season. 13 of the 31 players on the list played at least one game for the Fighting Saints last season as Dubuque returns a plethora of experienced players to Mystique Community Ice Center.

Riese Gaber, Dylan Jackson and Ty Jackson highlight the returning forwards as the three not only played last season with Dubuque but were featured on the same line for much of the season. Between the three players, Gaber and the Jacksons were able to accumulate 134 points in a combined 185 games. Cooper Haar and Bram Scheerer, who both provided exceptional second halves of 2018-19, will also return on the 30-man roster. Mason McCormick, who started on Dubuque’s affiliate list last season but saw plenty of action, will also be back along with Ryan Beck who finished the postseason with the Saints.

On the defensive side, Aidan Fulp, Luke Robinson, Kaelan Taylor, Michael Feenstra, Wyatt Kaiser, Braden Doyle and Ian Pierce all return after spending time with the Saints last season. Kaiser was the only member of the group to not skate in a game, but still joined the club for a week. Fulp, Taylor and Feenstra all made the squad out of camp, while Robinson was acquired midseason from the NAHL.

Speaking of the NAHL, Dubuque brings experience to camp from that level as well. Antonio Venuto, Gabe Temple, Ben Schultheis, Reggie Millette, Thomas Middleton, Jordon Halverson and Jimmy Glynn all cracked the list after spending time the North American Hockey League last season. Schultheis started the 2018-19 with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL.

Two highly touted NHL prospects also make an appearance on the Training Camp Roster. Stephen Halliday, who is a North Dakota commit and played last season with the Central Illinois Flying Aces, will join Dubuque after he was taken in the dispersal draft. Goaltender Erik Portillo, who was drafted 67th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2019 NHL Draft, will join the team as the front-runner to lead Dubuque between the pipes this season.

The Saints kick off their preseason schedule at home on September 13th, with a 7:05 puck drop against Cedar Rapids. The full Training Camp roster is listed below.
