DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints have added to their bench with experience from the DIII and NAHL levels as they have announced the hiring of Evan Dixon and Justin Hale to their coaching staff. Both coaches start effective immediately and will work to help Dubuque try to claim its 6th Clark Cup.
“We had a number of strong candidates reach out about the openings,” said Saints General Manager Kalle Larsson. “Evan’s and Justin’s skills stood out as the best fit for what we were looking for. We are confident they will add to our great culture in Dubuque and we are excited to welcome them to the Fighting Saints family."
Dixon previously coached at UW-Stevens Point (NCAA-DIII) where he won a National Championship as the captain of the team back in 2016. After graduating from UW-Stevens point, Dixon spent one year as a member of the Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League. In addition, he was on the coaching staff of the first unbeaten season in Division III men’s hockey as UW-Stevens Point captured the national title in 2018-19. Dixon was the assistant coach for the Pointers for two seasons.
“I would like to thank Kalle Larsson and Oliver David for the opportunity to be joining the Fighting Saints organization,” said Dixon. “I am grateful to be a part of and help continue to build the successful culture in Dubuque.”
Hale is also a former member of the UW-Stevens Point hockey team, playing from 2011-2015 for the Pointers. After graduating from UW-Stevens Point, Hale spent a season with Bemidji State University as their volunteer assistant coach. Hale has spent the last two seasons with the Lone Star Brahmas, one of the premier teams in the NAHL. During his two seasons with Lone Star, Hale helped the Brahmas go a combined 69-33-9-9 over the course of both regular seasons.
“I am extremely thankful for the opportunity provided to me by Kalle Larsson, Oliver David and the Saints Ownership,” said Hale. “I am excited to work for such a successful and storied franchise and look forward to working alongside the rest of the Fighting Saints staff and getting to know the Dubuque community.”
Both Dixon and Hale will be able to add valuable experience as both former coaches and from their former assistant coaching positions.
“We are excited and appreciative that both Evan and Justin chose us,” said head coach Oliver David. “They ooze with the qualities we value and burn with the desire to add value to our club. We look forward to being a part of their coaching journey, and expect they’ll each make an immediate positive impact on our players and our community.”
