Postgame jersey auction a tremendous success once again

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fighting Saints organization is pleased to announce that $18,652.46 was raised for the Veterans Freedom Center (VFC) in Dubuque during Military Appreciation Night on November 18. Military Appreciation Night was sponsored by Kwik Stop, Dairy Queen and Fazoli’s, and the specialty jerseys were sponsored by the Dubuque County Veterans Affairs Commission.

“Our fans once again showed why they are the best in the league,” said Fighting Saints Vice President Katie Kenne. “We make it a point to support our area veterans year after year, because without their service, we simply cannot do what we do here. We are so happy to be able to continue funding the VFC with the help of our successful jersey auction after another great win on Military Appreciation Night.”

Five jerseys were auctioned off for over $1,000: Alex Steeves, Cole Guttman, Jaxon Castor, Brendan Bushy and Chayse Primeau.

The Veterans Freedom Center is a non-profit organization that meets the needs of active duty, reserve and honorably discharged veterans in the Tri-State area. The center provides a woodworking shop, a crafting area, and a game room to promote camaraderie between area veterans.

The Veterans Freedom Center also founded Operation We Care, a fund that helps local veterans with additional medical costs, rent, mortgage payments, food, cleaning supplies or medications. The VFC is currently accepting donations of wheelchairs or walkers, which are refurbished and generously donated to disabled veterans at no cost.

The Fighting Saints defeated the Madison Capitols 3-2, which kept the eight-game Military Appreciation Night winning streak rolling along.
