Miska called up to NHL, Green receives honors

Here's what's going on with our alumni.

Former Fighting Saint and University of Minnesota-Duluth standout Hunter Miska earned his first professional win in a 4-3 for the Tucson Roadrunners over the Chicago Wolves. The next week Miska earned his second and third professional wins. Yesterday, Miska was called up to the NHL by the Arizona Coyotes after Antti Raanta was placed on injured reserve. This is Miska’s first call up to the NHL.

Former Saints coach Jason Lammers notched his second win as Head Coach of the Niagara University Purple Eagles in a 4-3 OT win over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This win was also the Purple Eagles' first conference win since October 26, 2012. The next weekend the Purple Eagles swept the weekend series against Sacred Heart. Lammers has the Purple Eagles off to their best start to a season in 10 seasons.

Evan Janssen of the Iowa Wild of the AHL scored his first professional goal and assist in a 3-2 win over the Manitoba Moose. Janssen played for the 2012-13 Clark Cup Champion Fighting Saints team and also for the 2016-17 University of Denver NCAA National Champions.

Dylan Gambrell scored two goals and six assists the past two weeks for the University of Denver Pioneers. Gambrell also scored his 100th career point for the Pioneers. Gambrell’s 10 points on the season put him in a tie for 11th in the NCAA. Gambrell played for the Saints from 2012-2015.

Just ahead of Gambrell among DI men’s hockey scoring leaders is Gordie Green with 11 points for the Miami University RedHawks, which puts him in a tie for fifth. Green's four points over the weekend helped the RedHawks sweep the weekend series against UConn. Green was also previously the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week for October 16-22.

Jacob Hamacher scored his first collegiate point for the Rochester Institute of Technology with an assist against Army West Point to help the Tigers win 5-4. Hamacher played for the Saints last season where he put up 40 points in 59 games.

Matt Benning scored the game winning goal for the Edmonton Oilers against the Dallas Stars to lead the Oilers to 5-4 win. This was Benning’s first point of the season.

Mike Matheson scored his first point of the season, an assist, to help the Florida Panthers defeat the Anaheim Ducks 8-3.

Johnny Gaudreau scored six more points the last two weeks to raise his total on the season to 15 points which is good for a five-way tie for fourth in the league.

Former Head Coach and GM Jim Montgomery, now Head Coach at the University of Denver, has led the Pioneers to a 4-0-2 record and a #1 ranking in the NCAA men’s hockey rankings.
