DUBUQUE, Iowa — Your Dubuque Fighting Saints start their quest for another Clark Cup against the reigning Clark Cup Champion and Eastern Conference rival, Chicago Steel at Opening Night, presented by American Trust, this Friday, October 6 at 7:05 p.m. at Our House.
The first 3,000 fans at the game will be the recipients of a magnetic schedule for the Fighting Saints 2017-18 regular season courtesy of American Trust. The fun continues with a pregame tailgate starting at 5:30 p.m. sponsored by Queen B Radio and Dubuque’s Super Hits 106.1 FM. At the tailgate there will be hot dogs and beverages available for purchase.
Last season, the Fighting Saints and the Steel split the regular season series 2-2 before they met again in the Eastern Conference Final. This preseason the Saints faced the Steel in a scrimmage for Fan Fest at Our House, beating the Steel 6-4 in route to an undefeated preseason schedule at home.
Opening Night, presented by American Trust, will be the regular season debut for Fighting Saints head coach Oliver David. David was previously an assistant coach for two season for the Saints, and then in his third year for the Saints he was the associate head coach and assistant general manager. This past season David was an assistant coach on ex-NHL coach Mike Johnston’s staff with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League before returning to the Saints.
This game will feature Fighting Saints Captain and Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick Cole Guttman, CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospect Jacob Semik, third-year goalie Jaxon Castor, and Winnipeg Jets draft pick and first year player Santeri Virtanen.
Notable players for the Steel include CCM/USA All-American Prospect Blake McLaughlin, Vegas Golden Knights draft pick Jack Dugan, and Clark Cup hero Tyler Gratton.
