CHICAGO — Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Colin Theisen (Monroe, Mich.) was named CCM/USHL Forward of the Week by the USHL on Monday afternoon. Over the three games that the Saints played this past weekend, he scored a hat trick with an assist in the Saints’ 5-2 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede, and a pair of helpers in the following night’s 3-1 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers.
Theisen’s stretch of hot play has given him the second-most goals in the league (23), and the third-most points in the league (40). He helped linemates Zach Solow (2 goals, 4 assists) and Cole Guttman (1 goal, 2 assists) to multi-point efforts over the weekend as well.
“I felt good out there. The Sioux Falls game I thought our line was really clicking, and in Des Moines, we really had to muck out a win there in a small building,” Theisen said. “We got the job done, and got five out of a possible six points, so it was a good weekend.”
Theisen has since doubled his point total from a season ago in two fewer games, and with plenty of running room left in the season, there is plenty of room left for even more production.
“I’ve been working on my offensive skills down low, and making plays. Obviously I like to shoot the puck, so I worked a lot on that this summer,” Theisen said of his play. “I think our line is doing well right now, so hopefully we can keep that going.”
Overall, Theisen has 23 goals and 17 assists for 40 points this season, is a +16, and has four game-winning goals. He ranks third in power play goals (7), tied for second in shorthanded goals (3), and is the league leader in shorthanded points (5).
